World of Disney (East)

Goofy has been part of Mickey's gang since 1932, and his clumsy enthusiasm makes him a natural for holiday chaos. In Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983) he played the ghost of Jacob Marley, and in Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas he spends the holiday trying to convince his son Max that Santa is real.

On this gold coin Goofy wears a Santa suit and decorates a little holiday train car with a present stacked on its roof, rolling on tracks past snowy trees. A ring of colored Christmas lights circles the design. It is one of six train coins split across the two World of Disney machines. The back has Sleeping Beauty Castle in holiday garland and snowflakes with the word “Disneyland.”

The chipmunks Chip and Dale first appeared in 1943 and became stars in their own shorts, usually outwitting Donald Duck or Pluto. They are easy to tell apart: Chip has a small black nose, Dale has a big red one. Their best-known holiday cartoon is Toy Tinkers (1949), where they sneak into Donald's house to steal nuts and end up fighting him with his own Christmas toys.

This gold coin shows the pair riding a handcar on the holiday train with a big green present between them, rolling past snowy trees. Colored Christmas lights circle the design. The back has Sleeping Beauty Castle in holiday garland and snowflakes with the word “Disneyland.”

Mickey Mouse has played Santa many times, from the 1930s shorts to the Christmas parades at Disneyland, where Santa's sleigh closes out the procession. As Santa, his most important job before Christmas Eve is checking who made the nice list.

On this gold coin Mickey wears a full Santa suit and checks the nice list beside a red mailbox decorated with a heart and holly. A red-and-white candy-cane border and a sprig of holly frame the scene. It pairs with the Mickey Delivering Gifts coin, which has the same border. The back has Sleeping Beauty Castle in holiday garland and snowflakes with the word “Disneyland.”

After checking the list, Santa has presents to deliver, and Mickey has taken on the job in Disney holiday cartoons and parades for decades. Disneyland's Christmas parade still ends with Santa waving from his sleigh.

On this gold coin Mickey, in a red Santa suit with white trim, carries a stocking past a blue wrapped present and a tagged package. It matches the Mickey Reviewing the Nice List coin with the same candy-cane border and holly. The back has Sleeping Beauty Castle in holiday garland and snowflakes with the word “Disneyland.”
